 Understanding Cells in Microsoft Excel

Suppose that the intersection of row 3 with column B will form the cell with the cell address B3. The cell address in Excel can be seen in the "Name Box" in the Microsoft Excel Workbook. Meanwhile, the definition of "range" in Excel is a group of cells identified by the cell address from the initial cell to the end cell. Range is related to the address of the cell which consists of relative, semi-absolute, and absolute cells.

How to Enter Data in Microsoft Excel Cells

1. Select cells with mouse or keyboard (use Tab to move columns, Enter move rows and          directional keys).

2. Enter data directly on the Workbook or via the Formula Bar.

3. Press Ctrl + Enter to save the contents of the data or the Tab key, Enter or the direction to     save and move cells.

Understanding Range in Microsoft Excel

A range is a set of cells identified by the cell name as the cell address in the upper left and the cell address in the lower right. Suppose you are going to select a range on an Excel worksheet, this can be done in 2 ways, namely:








1. Using mouse drag

    Click a cell without releasing it

    Drag to the next cell

2. Using the keyboard

    Select a cell

    Press Shift without releasing

Cell Address in Microsoft Excel (Relative, Semi Absolute, and Absolute)

A cell address is a cell name that identifies a cell in a row and column. The use of cell addresses is often used to form a pattern of formulas against data in worksheets. This is often used when locking cells in Excel. There are 3 cell addresses, namely relative, semi-absolute, and absolute cell addresses.

Excel Relative Cell Address

An Excel relative cell address is a cell address that changes according to its location, so that the cell address will change if you copy it to other cells. By default Microsoft Excel cell addresses are relative.

Example: Cell C2 = A2 + B2

When cells are copied using the autofill technique, the cell formulation results are relative

It can be seen that the displayed results are the formulations of the corresponding (relative) cells, it can be seen that the formula for each cell with CTRL + `(with a sign` called diacritics located to the right of the number 1 qwerty keyboard, not quotation marks') is as follows.






Excel Semi Absolute Cell Address

Excel semi absolute cell address is a cell address that is absolute in one form, either column or row, absolute means that it has a fixed (unchanging) value. To make the cell address semi-absolute you can add $ before the column or row which will be made absolute.

For example:

A $ 2 ⇒ row 2 is made absolute, row 2 is constant

$ A2 ⇒ column A is made absolute, column A is fixed

Example: D2 = A $ 2 + B2, this means that line A is relative and row 2 is absolute at the cell address A $ 2.

When the cells are copied, the cell formulation results in semi-absolute terms at A $ 2 as follows.

It can be seen that the formula for each cell with Ctrl + `is as follows.





So that it is known that the copy of Cell Address A $ 2, line 2 never changes. You can also create a Semi Absolute Cell Address on a column using $ A2.

Excel Absolute Cell Address / Lock Cells In Excel

Absolute cell address is a cell address that is absolute in its column and row so that the cell address never changes if it is copied elsewhere. To make the cell absolute, add the $ character before the column and cell address row.

Example: D2 = $ A $ 2 + B2, the rows and columns in the cell address $ A $ 2 are absolute.
When cells are copied, the cell formulation results in absolute $ A $ 2
